What is belly binding?
Bengkung belly binding is an ancient postpartum practice that originates from the Malay people of Southeast Asia. Belly biding requires supporting the abdomen and womb by enclosing the torso through the use of oils, herbs, and various wrapping techniques.
When to belly bind?
Of course, listening to your body is the first consideration when planning to begin binding. For individuals who experienced a vaginal birth, binding may begin as early as 3 to 5 days postpartum. For individuals who experience a cesarean birth, binding may begin as early as 3 to 4 weeks, postpartum considering the incision site has healed and there is no presence of pain.
The Bengkung belly bind should be worn between 6 and 12 hours daily at minimum for up to 6 weeks postpartum.
